The times where only single clouds and isolated solutions exist on the market are over. In the context of digitalization, the increasing relevance of cloud technologies was followed by logical development. Companies are increasingly relying on networked and hybrid models such as Hybrid Clouds and Multi-Clouds. These foundations form the optimal promise for the ongoing digitization, flexibilization and dynamization of IT in the connection with the entire organization. Since both models refer to a so-called Cloud Mix, the risk of confusion is obvious. However, both variants can be separated from each other.
Hybrid Cloud
A Hybrid Cloud is a concept of Cloud Computing in which companies can expand the resources of their own private cloud through public cloud. This combination enables companies to operate and manage parts of their own IT resources locally (on premise) and other parts outside the company. With this approach, public cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure can be used as data archives, while important customer data is stored locally in storage. In addition, the advantages of a private cloud are used, because the hybrid approach allows companies to benefit from scalability and cost efficiency with this combination.
Multi-Cloud
The Multi-Cloud, on the other hand, is the answer to the development of the complexity and variety of requirements of digital workloads in companies. For example, the requirements for sensitive data are different from those for big data analysis, and prices can also be different. Companies have recognized that the cloud is not the same as the cloud and that for every project the right resources must be available for the parallel use of multiple services from differentiated cloud operators. The special advantage of the multi-cloud is that the desired service and price can be obtained from the most suitable provider when using the services.
Which Cloud to choose?
This election is not aimed at an either/or question. The Hybrid Cloud solution such as Microsoft Azure, for example, is Enterprise proven, combining the best of both worlds while providing greater flexibility. Microsoft Azure is a globally available and growing collection of integrated cloud services. Among other things, this collection is responsible for analyses, computing, networks and databases. This makes data backup, data storage and recovery more economical and efficient.
